Dr. John Akhagbeme Momoh is a professional engineer with Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy, Nigeria. He further obtained a Master degree in Navigation and Related Applications from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2006. Dr. Momoh obtained his PhD degree in Satellite Navigation from the University College London, United Kingdom in 2013.
Dr. Momoh joined the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in 2001 as a Space Systems Engineer and one of the pioneering engineers of NASRDA. He was trained in the development and launch of the first Nigerian satellite, NigeriaSat-1, from 2001 to 2003. He rose through the ranks and was appointed the Special Assistant (Technical) to the Director General of the Agency from 2014 to 2020. Dr. Momoh was promoted to the position of Director (Engineering) in January 2024.
Dr. Momoh is a team player. He has participated in other training and development programmes of the Agency as a trainee and mentor to younger engineers in the Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD) and Engineering and Space Systems Department of the Agency. Dr. Momoh represents the Agency in various local and international technical platforms, including meetings of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations Office of Outer Space (UNOOSA), conferences and workshops on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Dr. Momoh was appointed the GNSS Projects Manager of the Agency in 2006, coordinating the GNSS-related activities and projects nationwide.
Dr. Momoh started lecturing at Obafemi Awolowo University in his early days as a postgraduate student. He continued as a Teaching Assistant at the prestigious University College London till 2013. Dr. Momoh has been engaged in part-time lecturing, student supervision, and research in some Nigerian universities, including the University of Abuja, the African University of Science and Technology, and Landmark University.
In July 2024, Dr. Momoh was appointed the Director and Provost of the NASRDA Institute of Space Science and Engineering (ISSE), which is affiliated with the African University of Science and Technology. He currently heads this postgraduate institution, providing both administrative and academic leadership in teaching and research.
Dr. Momoh is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He is also a member of the Institute of Navigation (ION) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Dr. Momoh has many academic publications to his credit, and his hobbies include singing and playing football.
