NIGCOMSAT-1 is the first communications satellite launched by Nigeria, aiming to improve communication infrastructure in the country. It was Launched on the 13th of May, 2007. It is a Geostationary Satellite positioned at 42.5° East longitude over the equator. The satellite was built by China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) in collaboration with Nigerian authorities. It is in a geostationary orbit, meaning it remains fixed relative to a specific point on Earth, offering consistent coverage of the same geographical area. NIGCOMSAT-1 carries both C-band and Ku-band transponders, which are used for telecommunication services like broadcasting, telephony, and internet services. The satellite weights approximately 5,000 kg and has a design lifetime of about 15 years.
