The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized that result-oriented engagements with experts and relevant stakeholders is a critical pathway for the successful realization of the Nigerian space program.
Dr. Adepoju made this assertion while hosting a delegation from the Nigerian Cartographic Association (NCA), on a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, professional bodies like the NCA are strategic enablers of national development due to the crucial roles they play in advancing societal progress.
He reaffirmed NASRDA’s commitment to supporting the Association’s initiatives and urged its leadership to work towards securing a formidable legal framework through an Act of Parliament, which would serve as both symbol of authority and platform for survival.
Emphasizing the significance of accurate mapping and boundary demarcation in promoting peaceful coexistence, Dr. Adepoju said many international border disputes and lingering crisis situations are rooted in the neglect of cartographers’ expertise.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Cartographic Association, Prof. Momoh Rilwani, who led the delegation to NASRDA, described the visit as both a congratulatory courtesy and an avenue to formally inform the NASRDA DG of the Association’s upcoming international conference, scheduled to take place in Abuja on NASRDA campus.
He commended Dr. Adepoju’s visionary leadership, noting that the Association had been closely following his achievements since assuming office.
Prof. Rilwani also called for the professionalization of all mapping activities in Nigeria under a strong regulatory authority, stressing that such a move would strengthen national security, infrastructure development, and environmental management.
He extolled NASRDA as “a worthy partner” whose remarkable contributions in geospatial applications have significantly accelerated the pace of national development.
The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their mutual commitment to collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of innovative geospatial solutions for the benefit of the nation.
