The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has extolled the exemplary leadership, patriotism, and selfless service of Air Vice Marshal Lanre Oluwatoyin, who recently bowed out of active service.
Dr. Adepoju made this known in an interview at the official handing-over ceremony of AVM Oluwatoyin at the Defence Space Administration (DSA) Headquarters in Abuja/
While describing his career and retirement as a divine blessing and a testament to devoted national service, the NASRDA boss lauded AVM Oluwatoyin for his visionary leadership and transformative impact during his tenure as the 7th Chief of Defence Space Administration.
He noted that his stewardship ushered in a new era of peace, collaboration, and institutional growth within Nigeria’s expanding space ecosystem.
The NASRDA Boss acknowledged the outgoing DSA’s instrumental role in fostering partnerships between NASRDA, the Defence Space Administration, and academic institutions, pointing to the establishment of critical research infrastructure at the University of Ilorin as a landmark achievement that strengthened Nigeria’s research and innovation capacity.
Dr. Adepoju further commended AVM Oluwatoyin’s strategic contributions to the national rocketry programme, describing him as a pioneer whose foresight and dedication laid enduring foundations for the advancement of defence-space technology and sustainable national development.
In his valedictory speech, Air Vice Marshal Lanre Oluwatoyin expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for His faithfulness throughout his service years, emphasizing that his career journey had been marked by challenges, triumphs, and unforgettable milestones.
He also appreciated the officers and staff of the Defence Space Administration for their professionalism, loyalty, and collective spirit, which he described as the cornerstone of his achievements.
Speaking at the occasion, the incoming Chief of Defence Space Administration, Major General P. O. Ilodibia, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him to steer the affairs of the DSA.
He assured that he would consolidate on the existing structures and strategies laid by his predecessor to ensure sustained growth, innovation, and progress in Nigeria’s Defence-Space operations.
The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic handover and exchange of baton between the outgoing and incoming Chiefs of the Defence Space Administration, signifying the continuity of leadership and service to the nation.
