The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has stated that effective collaboration, inclusiveness, and teamwork are vital for advancing national development and professional growth across sectors.

He made the statement while receiving the new leadership of the Geoinformation Society of Nigeria (GEOSON) on a courtesy visit to the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the strength of any organization lies in its ability to carry everyone along, stressing that leadership must be inclusive to ensure peace, productivity, and sustainable progress.

Dr. Adepoju explained that while NASRDA remains open to supporting professional bodies, such support must align with the Agency’s statutory mandate, operational framework, and national interest.

He further highlighted that NASRDA, beyond research and development, is statutorily mandated to regulate Nigeria’s space ecosystem across upstream, midstream, and downstream activities, emphasizing the importance of a robust organizational structure.

The NASRDA boss commended the visiting delegation’s leadership, particularly their commitment to youth development, mentorship, and capacity building, describing these as essential for shaping future professionals and sustaining institutional relevance.

Dr. Adepoju assured the GEOSON Leadership of NASRDA’s commitment to provide technical guidance, capacity-building support, and collaborative platforms, particularly in training, research engagement, and outreach to academic institutions.

In her remark, the President of GEOSON, Dr. Dupe Dosumu, lauded the Director General and his management team for the Agency’s visible transformation over the years, noting that more than two decades of engagement in the geospatial and space sector have afforded her the opportunity to witness the Agency’s growth and increasing national relevance.

According to her, the vision and mandate of GEOSON closely align with NASRDA’s, particularly in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among geographers, geologists, surveyors, environmentalists, and other geospatial professionals.

She explained that the Society’s new leadership is eager to leverage Dr Adepoju’s wealth of experience, having served in various leadership capacities within GEOSON, to guide its programmes and strengthen institutional development.

Dr. Dosumu added that GEOSON plans to establish innovation and research hubs across universities nationwide and will require NASRDA’s collaboration and technical support, while expressing the Society’s commitment to sustained engagement and participation in the Agency’s programmes for greater national impact.
