The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has said that the fastest and most sustainable path to national development lies in a formidable relationship between academia, research institutions, and industry.

‎He made this assertion during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NASRDA and Adamawa State University (ADSU) at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

‎According to him, when universities generate knowledge, research institutions translate that knowledge into innovation, and industry applies it for economic value, nations begin to experience accelerated development, technological advancement, and global competitiveness.

‎The NASRDA boss noted that the Agency remains an inclusive national platform, adding that space science and technology cut across all sectors of the economy, including agriculture, security, health, education, and environmental management, making it one of the most ambitious tools for modern development.

‎He explained that the newly established Center at Adamawa State University is strategically focused on food security and climate change studies, areas that are critical to Nigeria’s survival and economic stability in the face of growing environmental challenges.

‎Dr. Adepoju further assured that NASRDA is committed to deepening its relationship with the university by providing technical support, knowledge exchange, and collaborative research opportunities that will strengthen the center’s capacity and national impact.

‎Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Professor Augustine Clement, expressed deep appreciation to the Director-General and management of NASRDA for siting such a critical research center at the institution.

‎Professor Clement stated that the university is fully prepared for a robust and productive collaboration, adding that ADSU has already provided the necessary infrastructure, with the project site secured and offices ready for immediate takeoff.

‎He explained that climate change remains a global challenge with far-reaching consequences, noting that Nigeria is not immune to its effects, particularly in areas such as food production, environmental sustainability, and human livelihoods.

‎He concluded by affirming that the collaboration between NASRDA and ADSU will not only benefit Adamawa State but will also contribute significantly to national development by providing research-driven solutions to climate change and food security challenges across the country.
