The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Matthew Adepoju has emphasized the critical role of Space Technology in strengthening National Security.
He made this known during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd) at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja.
Dr Adepoju said Nigeria’s security challenges require investment in technological solutions and coordinated inter agency collaboration, adding that NASRDA remains the only civilian Agency statutorily mandated for satellite development in the country.
He highlighted NASRDA’s existing technological solutions, including AI enabled monitoring systems capable of tracking activities across long distances and operating both day and night.
The NASRDA boss further explained that the Agency is currently working toward deploying four new satellites to improve surveillance and earth observation capabilities, noting that these will significantly enhance the country’s ability to monitor its borders and respond swiftly to security concerns.
Describing the visit as timely and strategic, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), emphasized that the Space Agency plays a vital role in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to combat terrorism and enhance national security operations.
General Musa noted that collaboration with NASRDA would significantly enhance operational efficiency and make the Ministry’s work more effective, while also assuring the Agency of the Ministry’s full support in achieving its mandate.
