The Director General and Chief Executive, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has called for thorough planning and the highest standards in the organisation of the forthcoming Geo-Nigeria Conference.

He made the call while inaugurating the 2026 Geo-Nigeria Local organizing committee (LOC), at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju stated that the conference is expected to attract participants and visitors from across the world, stressing that the organising team must ensure excellence in every aspect of the programme in order to present Nigeria positively on the global stage.

He described Geo-Nigeria as a strategic platform for institutions, organisations and stakeholders within the geospatial sector to showcase innovative products and ongoing initiatives, noting that the conference will further strengthen Nigeria’s presence within the global geospatial community.

The NASRDA boss further explained that the programme is a national undertaking that goes beyond a single institution, adding that while NASRDA serves as the secretariat, the conference represents a collaborative national effort that requires the active participation of stakeholders across multiple sectors.

Dr. Adepoju therefore urged members of the committee and other partners to give their best in ensuring the success of the conference.

In his remarks, the chairman of the LOC and Director, Strategic Space Applications Department, Dr. Godstime James reiterated that the conference transcends NASRDA as an institution.

According to him, Geo-Nigeria represents Nigeria’s broader engagement with the global geospatial community and reflects the country’s leadership in advancing geospatial collaboration.

Dr. James encouraged members of the organising committee to approach their responsibilities with commitment and a strong sense of national representation, pointing that the success of the conference would depend on the collective efforts of government institutions, private sector actors and other stakeholders.

Also speaking at the meeting, Jagila Jantiku, GEO-Nigeria Focal Point and Lead of the Local Organising Committee acknowledged the high expectations placed on Nigeria as host of the conference, saying that the country was given the opportunity to host the symposium after biding from the last conference.

She apologised for the short notice given to members regarding preparations and stressed the importance of strong commitment and collaboration among stakeholders.

She noted that the event is designed to bring together geospatial communities from across the world.

Jantiku also highlighted the critical role of the private sector in driving innovation and expanding the overall impact of the conference.

She also emphasised the need for effective community engagement and close coordination among partners to ensure successful delivery of the programme.

According to her, the conference is expected to attract about 500 participants, including experts, industry stakeholders and representatives from various sectors.

Geo-Nigeria 2026 presents a significant opportunity to further position Nigeria within the global geospatial community while strengthening collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange across the sector.
