The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized the need for closer collaboration between industry and academia to advance science, research and technology for the socio-economic growth of the country.
He stated this while receiving a delegation from Bingham University at the NASRDA headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Adepoju, highlighting the crucial role of the Space sector in addressing national challenges, noted that Space technology offers practical solutions that can benefit various sectors, including agriculture, security, and infrastructure development.
He stressed the importance of educational reform, urging academia to focus on producing leaders and job creators while encouraging institutions to go back to the drawing board to nurture innovative thinkers who will drive the economy forward.
The NASRDA Boss commended the Faculty of Computing at the University for their initiative in seeking a relationship with NASRDA and expressed optimism that this could lead to significant future collaborations.
In his remarks, the Dean of Faculty of Computing at Bingham University, Associate Prof. Adamu Usman said the purpose of the visit is to establish a strong working relationship with the Space sector, adding that NASRDA is recognized as the leading research Agency in Nigeria, making it an ideal partner for academic collaboration.
He highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between academia and the Space industry, stressing that fostering closer ties would promote technological advancements and innovative solutions to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
According to him, such solutions must be tailored towards addressing local needs to ensure sustainable impact that will enhance developmental growth.
