In a significant move to deepen Nigeria’s footprint in space innovation, the Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized that space technology is a strategic tool for driving economic growth, innovation, and digital transformation across Nigeria and the globe.
He made this statement during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NASRDA and GalaxySpace at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Adepoju commended the Senior Manager and delegation from GalaxySpace for their proactive efforts in facilitating the collaboration, which he described a catalyst for socio economic development.
He explained that the partnership is aimed at advancing joint research development and deploying next generation space technologies such as Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems, remote sensing, communication satellites, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and Earth observation tools.
The NASRDA Boss, stated that the Agency will provide technical support in areas of knowledge exchange, capacity building for engineers, joint research initiatives, and backing for the nationwide rollout of satellite internet infrastructure, all under the terms of the MoU.
He further emphasized the need for immediate implementation of the MoU, describing it as a critical national assignment that must commence without delay.
In his technical presentation and remarks, the Senior Manager, GalaxySpace, Mr. Sam Xiao, appreciated Dr. Adepoju for the warm reception and expressed delight at the swift execution of the MoU, stating that NASRDA is an Agency with immense potential for the future of Africa’s Space ecosystem.
Mr. Xiao also disclosed that GalaxySpace will also collaborate with NASRDA on the development and launch of CubeSat 3U/6U systems, placing Nigeria in a prime position to leverage first-mover advantages within the small satellite industry.
He assured that GalaxySpace will fully uphold its commitments under the agreement, working hand in hand with NASRDA for the mutual benefit of both institutions and national development.
