In a decisive move to strengthen Nigeria’s space capabilities, the Director General and Chief Executive, National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, Dr Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized the critical importance of transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to procurement procedures in all government projects.

He made the statement today at a stakeholders meeting held at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju noted that openness and due process must guide the design, construction, and launch of four new satellites planned for the country, adding that such principles are essential for credibility and efficiency in government operations.

He said Nigeria urgently requires new satellites, as many of its existing ones have already been de-orbited.

The proposed satellites, according to the NASRDA Boss are expected to address key national challenges, including security, environmental monitoring, and technological development.

Dr. Adepoju commended stakeholders for their dedication to the project, while reiterating that all activities must align with the provisions of the nation’s procurement laws to guarantee accountability and value for public resources.

Speaking earlier, the Director of Procurement, Mr Aminu Yakubu, reaffirmed NASRDA’s commitment to government procurement principles.

He stressed the need for effective strategies that will sustain compliance and enhance institutional performance.

Mr Yakubu also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to drive innovation and accelerate national development.

Highlight of the meeting was an interactive session where participants exchanged ideas on how the proposed satellites can effectively tackle pressing issues within the country, reinforcing the collective commitment to advancing Nigeria’s space sector.
