The Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has said that NASRDA possesses both the technology and skilled manpower required to support evidence-based solutions to national challenges.

He made this remark during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NASRDA and ‘Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria,’ SPRiNG, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju described the collaboration as a turning point, saying it bridges a long-standing gap between technology and peace-building efforts.

According to him, the collaboration provides a practical platform to translate scientific data into actions that address climate-related conflicts and insecurity.

The Director-General urged other institutions to pursue strategic partnerships that deliver measurable impact, stressing that national development can no longer rely on isolated efforts.

Dr. Adepoju added that implementation of the MoU should begin immediately, calling on both teams to move swiftly from signing to action.

The Team Leader of the UK-funded SPRiNG programme, Dr. Ukoha Ukiwo, said the signing of the MoU marks a significant step in formalising a partnership that has evolved through sustained engagement and shared objectives between both institutions.

He explained that SPRiNG is a multi-year programme designed to support peace, stability and resilience initiatives across the country and works with multiple actors to address the underlying drivers of violence.

According to him, the programme adopts a science driven and evidence based approach, focusing on issues that have been proven to fuel conflict and on solutions that have demonstrated measurable impact.

Dr. Ukiwo said persistent challenges such as farmer-herder conflicts and the growing effect of climate change require accurate data and informed analysis, noting that this informs SPRiNG’s decision to partner with NASRDA.

He expressed confidence that the collaboration would contribute meaningfully to national growth and strengthen efforts to build lasting peace.
