The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has stated that Nigeria is on the verge of producing its first astronaut, a development he said, ignites renewed hope for the future of science and technology in the country.
He made this known while receiving the delegation of Titans Space Industries on a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Adepoju, who described the moment as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s space journey, expressed profound joy as he welcomed the country’s first astronaut candidate.
He also commended the strong leadership and guidance that shaped her journey, noting that such support is essential to building a competitive and globally recognised national space programme.
The DG added that her bravery reflects the resilience required to advance Nigeria’s presence in outer space, assuring her that NASRDA eagerly awaits her safe return once she completes her mission.
He added that NASRDA remains committed to mentoring young innovators who are ready to explore new frontiers.
In her remarks, the astronaut candidate from Titans Space Industries, Fauziyyah Auwal, thanked the Director General and the NASRDA team for the work they continue to champion in advancing Nigeria’s space efforts.
She explained that although she began the journey with hesitation and fear, her curiosity gradually strengthened her confidence and deepened her commitment, as she now understands that she represents the entire nation.
Some Directors of the Agency also commended her progress, encouraging her to maintain the drive and continue representing Nigeria with honour, discipline, and resilience.
