Ondo State Government has taken a decisive step toward technology-driven governance and sustainable development following a high level engagement with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), signaling a new era of innovation for the state.
The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Chief Lucky Aiyedatiwa stressed the need to transform the state into a technology hub capable of providing practical solutions to societal challenges thereby accelerating the pace of development in the state.
The Executive Governor made this known during a virtual meeting between members of the Ondo State Executive Council and the management of NASRDA.
Governor Aiyedatiwa who was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Olayide Adelami, emphasized the readiness of the state government to leverage space technology and geospatial solutions to enhance government operations across key sectors.
He commended NASRDA for its remarkable achievements over the years, particularly its contributions to addressing issues of national importance, noting that collaboration with the Agency would enable Ondo State to directly benefit from space based products and services for its development.
According to him, the proposed partnership will focus on strategic sectors such as security, education, healthcare, land administration and agriculture, with the aim of improving service delivery and promoting inclusive development for the people of the state.
Speaking earlier, the Director General and Chief Executive, NASRDA, Dr Mathew Adepoju, explained that the application of space technology in areas such as land information management, crime mapping, mining activities and capacity building would empower the Ondo State Government to make informed decisions, optimize resource allocation, boost internally generated revenue and achieve sustainable growth.
Dr Adepoju disclosed that NASRDA has continued to provide cutting-edge geospatial solutions to several states and sectors by deploying satellite data to monitor infrastructure and identify critical areas requiring urgent attention.
He added that advanced technology can significantly enhance security management by enabling authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging threats.
Reaffirming the Agency’s commitment, the NASRDA boss assured the Ondo State Government of sustained technical support, highlighting the Agency’s expertise in satellite imagery, geospatial data analysis and digital transformation initiatives.
In his presentation, the Acting Director, Space Enterprise, Dr Idris Jega, gave a detailed graphical overview of NASRDA’s capabilities and service offerings, noting that effective collaboration would help transition Ondo State’s systems from manual processes to fully digitized platforms.
He stressed that a result-oriented partnership would create a formidable framework to accelerate development and improve governance.
The meeting featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which members of the Ondo State Government sought clarifications and received detailed responses from the NASRDA team.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of GeoApps Plus Limited, Mr Emmanuel Onwubuariri, commended the commitment shown by both parties and expressed optimism that the collaboration would foster a sustained relationship capable of redefining intergovernmental cooperation for the delivery of practical solutions that benefit Nigerians.
