The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has described graphene based products as a strategic catalyst capable of redefining Nigeria’s industrial landscape and accelerating national development.

He made this known during a virtual engagement between NASRDA and the Bank of Industry (BOI), held at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr Adepoju explained that the structured commercialization of graphene innovations would strengthen indigenous enterprises, boost manufacturing capacity, create more sustainable employment, and enhance national control over local production systems.

According to him, the collaboration marks a significant step toward translating advanced scientific research into large-scale industrial development.

The NASRDA Boss noted that graphene technology is globally recognized for its exceptional strength, electrical conductivity, durability, and versatility. It presents Nigeria with a rare opportunity to overcome traditional industrial limitations and build a competitive manufacturing ecosystem anchored on indigenous research and development.

The NASRDA Boss described graphene as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrial diversification agenda, stressing that the initiative aligns with national priorities focused on economic resilience, technological sovereignty, and value chain expansion.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOI, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, commended NASRDA’s forward-looking research achievements and expressed the Bank’s readiness to explore structured financing mechanisms, feasibility assessments, and joint commercialization models to advance the initiative.

Dr Olusi expressed financial sector’s confidence in the technical viability and economic potential of graphene commercialization, describing it as a viable driver of industrial growth and national development.

In his Presentation, the Acting Director of Physical and Life Sciences at NASRDA, Professor Benjamin Ayantunji, delivered a comprehensive technical presentation showcasing the Agency’s portfolio of market-ready graphene applications.

Prof. Ayantunji disclosed that NASRDA has moved beyond theoretical research to practical and scalable innovations capable of strengthening national cybersecurity and data protection, thereby promoting indigenous hardware engineering and supporting scalable manufacturing ecosystems across critical sectors of the economy.

Both institutions resolved to pursue detailed technical evaluations and structured commitments aimed at ensuring that scientific innovation is effectively translated into tangible economic value.
