In a strategic move to strengthen innovation-driven economic growth, the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, has stated that the Federal Government of Nigeria has advanced discussions with the Republic of Türkiye on translating research outcomes into viable market solutions.
He made this known during strategic engagements in Türkiye, held as part of the official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to the country.
Dr. Udeh emphasized the Federal Government’s resolve to move beyond research for knowledge’s sake and prioritize innovation that delivers measurable economic and social impact.
He noted that Türkiye’s success in commercialising research through effective technology transfer mechanisms and strong private-sector participation offers valuable lessons for Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.
According to the Minister, Nigeria is developing a clear and actionable framework to support structured research-to-market pathways between both countries, with a focus on turning scientific discoveries into scalable commercial products.
He explained that the collaboration will prioritize joint research and development, innovation financing, capacity building, startup incubation, and industrial scale-up, all aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s innovation landscape and boosting global competitiveness.
Dr. Udeh reiterated that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration, which places innovation, science, and technology at the core of economic diversification and sustainable development.
He described the engagement as a significant step toward deepening international cooperation in science and technology while positioning Nigeria to harness innovation as a catalyst for industrial growth and national development.
The Minister noted that he was accompanied on the engagement by the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, highlighting the strategic role of space science and technology in the discussions.
He added that NASRDA will play a fundamental role in the proposed research-to-market framework, particularly in driving innovation, technology transfer, and the commercialization of research outputs critical to national development.
The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency, (NASRDA) Dr Matthew Adepoju who was part of the Minister of Innovation Science and Technology while visiting the Innovation and Technology Park has said there are possibilities of exploring tripartite relationships between NASRDA, the Universities Research hubs and Industry.
NASRDA can explore partnerships in areas such as robotics and AI, encouraging startups in Nigeria for global impact.
According to him areas such as Robotics and software development are possible areas for collaboration which will be of immense benefit to space enterprise in Nigeria.
