NASRDA BOSS UNDERSCORES THE IMPORTANCE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO SECURITY

The Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba, has emphasized the significance of adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) into measures aimed at combating insecurity in Nigeria. 

He stated this when he played host to members of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 17 from the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) at NASRDA’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Shaba explained that collaboration with stakeholders in the Space Sector will provide solutions to the menace of insecurity presently bedeviling our nation, and help chart a course for our security architecture as a nation.

While expressing appreciation for the visit, Dr. Shaba reaffirmed NASRDA’s dedication to fostering partnerships with entities focused on tackling insecurity, carrying out research, and engaging in policy formulation for the socio-economic development of our nation.

Highlighting NASRDA’s ongoing initiatives in policy development, particularly in cybersecurity, the NASRDA’s boss stressed the strategic role of security in Nigeria’s overall advancement, and called for engagement with NASRDA as the Agency is ready to provide all relevant data that will aid research and development.

He added that the space agency plans to leverage on AI for efficient data processing, citing its potential to accelerate data interpretation across various sectors of the society.

The DG also disclosed that NASRDA’s is engaging in smart agriculture to further propel Nigeria’s agricultural sector thereby ingraining the technology and system into our society. 

In his remarks, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at the National Institute for Security Studies, Mr. Didacus Egbeji, stated that their visit to NASRDA was to explore potential collaboration in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Security. 

He stressed the significance of partnering with NASRDA to harness its expertise and resources in advancing the institute’s objectives. Mr. Egbeji who appreciated the leadership of the Agency for a warm reception explained that the institute is currently running a certification course that includes four tours, both local and international, visiting Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government relevant to the Institute’s course.

 Mr. Egbeji emphasized the significance of seeking partnership with NASRDA to leverage its expertise and resources in advancing the institute’s mandate. He commended NASRDA’s initiatives and expressed eagerness to explore opportunities for collaboration to enhance national security. 

 The Director, department of Satellite Management and Mission Control, of the Agency Dr. Gods time James during a technical presentation on Space Security for National Development, provided insights into NASRDA’s activities highlighting the prospects of space technology and AI as strategic to driving economic growth globally.
