NASRDA BOSS DESCRIBES MEDIA ROLE AS STRATEGIC FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Halilu Shaba has said that effective organizational success of any given entity, heavily relies on the indispensable role of the media.

The Director General who was represented by the Director, Center for Satellite Technology Development, CSTD, Dr. Sadiq Umar made this statement during the opening ceremony of a two-day training workshop, organized for media staff, titled “Generative AI: Applications and Benefits for Modern communications” at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja. 

 While declaring the workshop open, Dr. Shaba emphasized that adopting technologies like generative Artificial Intelligence can significantly augment media operations and expand its reach within and beyond the Agency. 

 He however urged participants to leverage on the opportunity the training presents and embrace budding technologies in the communication industry, to optimally carry out their duties in the agency.

 In his remarks the Director, Media and Corporate Communications, Dr. Felix Ale, said the Media and Corporate Communications of the Agency, strategically represent the link between NASRDA and both its internal and external publics. He said there is need to keep abreast with the changes in the communication space to be able to relate the innovations and happenings within the organization to the public.

 The NASRDA Spokesman expressed profound gratitude to the Director General for the workshop, saying that the newly acquired knowledge will be relevant in the operations and activities of the NSTItv and promised that the media team will deploy all new techniques learnt to accelerate and propagate the Nigerian Space program. 

 Also in attendance, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Engineers, represented by the Vice Chairman of the institute, Engr. Kayode Babalola lauded the efforts of the agency in training members of staff and asked trainees to reciprocate the gesture by putting to good use the knowledge acquired from the training. 

 The workshop which was facilitated by the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers, brought together media staff from various Centres of excellence of the Agency. According to the lead facilitator, Miss. Ibikunle Damilola, the training will provide hands-on skills in leading generative AI tools and how they can enhance modern media practices. 

 During the two day workshop, participants got practical training on leveraging AI applications, prompt engineering, and users responsibility, and using AI to synthesize data into easy-to-understand narratives.

 Participants also engaged in robust conversations bordering on best practices, ethics, and the future of AI in communications.
