DG NARSDA EMPHASIZES THE AGENCY’S COMMITMENT TO ADVANCING KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE IN GIS

The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), 

Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba has expressed the Agency’s commitment in complementing the activities of relevant stakeholders especially in enhancing knowledge and expertise through Geo-information System.

He stated this during the closing ceremony of the Geo-information System and Remote Sensing Training Programme organized for the students of the University of Lagos (Unilag) at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja. 

 The NASRDA Boss who explained that the Agency is endowed with intellectual capabilities and is in no way competing with institutions of higher learning but complementing their efforts, especially by creating platforms for further learning and practicals.

 Dr. Shaba, commended both the organizers and the participants for their combined dedication and efforts in ensuring the success of the training exercise. Speaking earlier, the Director, Strategic Space Applications of the Agency, Dr. Matthew Adepoju encouraged the participants to make good use of knowledge they acquired in order to contribute immensely to the development of the country. Dr. Adepoju who called on the participants to be good ambassadors of the Space Agency, urged them to use the various platforms at their disposal to advertise the training programme, so that young and well-meaning Nigerians can participate in the interest of nation building. 

In his goodwill message, the coordinator of the training programme from the University of Lagos, Dr. Akinlabi Akintuyi who lauded the Space Agency for the professionalism displayed during the training programme, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn.

 Dr. Akintuyi, while describing the quality of the agency’s GIS and Remote Sensing training as outstanding, explained that due to the commendable facilities and highly knowledgeable staff within NASRDA, UNILAG will continue to send individuals for knowledge advancement. 

Some of the participants took turns expressing their delight in the knowledge gained, noting that the training has equipped them with tools and techniques to enhance their professional capabilities. 

 Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of attendance to the participants.
