NASRDA, AIR/CAS STRENGTHENS TIES FOR SATELLITE DEVELOPMENT

The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency, (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has said the Agency is poised to strengthen bilateral ties with partners in Satellite Technology Development. 

 He made the statement during a meeting with a team from Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAR) at the NASRDA Headquarters in Abuja. 

 Dr. Adepoju while appreciating the team from AIR/CAS pointed that the Chinese government has prioritized its relationship with Nigeria by granting NASRDA access to data from Chinese satellites and constructing a Remote Sensing Ground Station at the Agency. 

 He stated that the partnership between NASRDA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences is a longstanding strategic relationship, highlighting the CropWatch project as one of its collaborative programs amongst others. 

 The Director General while thanking the team for the infrastructural development support, reassured them that the Agency will provide competent security and personnel to man the proposed Remote Sensing Ground Station as part of NASRDA’s contribution to the collaboration. 

 Dr. Adepoju expressed enthusiasm over the partnership, noting that the collaboration will expedite the process of building Satellites together. In a presentation, the Technical Director, Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), Xuxiang Feng said the Institute as part of its contribution to the collaboration, will purchase and transport to Nigeria a 12 millimeter antenna and invest for antenna infrastructure construction. 

 He added that the Institute will also provide expenses for long term operation of the Ground Station and provide authority to use and distribute three Chinese satellite Data over Nigeria. 

 Feng emphasized that AIR is fully committed to ensuring the successful establishment of the proposed Remote Sensing Ground Station and future joint projects with NASRDA.
