ADEPOJU ADVOCATES FOR SPACE TECHNOLOGY IN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized the vital role of space technology in advancing Nigeria’s environmental conservation efforts, particularly in enhancing the monitoring of national parks. 

 He made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Conservator General of the National Park Service, in Abuja.

 While highlighting the potential of space science in supporting various sectors, especially wildlife protection and the preservation of natural resources within Nigeria’s parks, Dr. Adepoju noted that the nation’s ecological assets could be better protected and promoted through space technology.

 The NASRDA Boss reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to providing technological support to the National Park Service, ensuring the improved protection and efficient management of the country’s wildlife and natural resources.

 He expressed optimism that the partnership between NASRDA and the National Park Service, under the current leadership, could stimulate economic diversification through ecotourism and improved conservation efforts.

 In his remarks, the Conservator General, Dr. Ibrahim Goni who expressed appreciation over the visit, further reiterated the National Park Service’s responsibility to conserve and protect Nigeria’s wildlife and natural resources for sustainable development.

 He noted that collaboration with a strategic agency like NASRDA would significantly enhance the service’s capacity to address challenges such as poaching, insecurity, and illegal harvesting. 

 Dr. Goni further affirmed the National Park Service’s dedication to working closely with NASRDA to enhance ecotourism and achieve its conservation goals, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s economic diversification.
